Any student in middle or high school is welcome to come to the center after school.\n\nWe are also looking for students to serve on our board and to help plan special events.\n\nPeer tutors would also be welcomed.
We need adult volunteers to \n* help supervise the center\n* provide mentoring\n* tutor all subjects (including computer skills)\n* be a positive role model\n* monitor computer usage \n* trouble shoot computer issues\n* provide healthy snacks\n* teach skills or crafts\n\nWe need youth volunteers to\n* provide peer tutoring\n* learn about the computer system and help supervise its usage\n\n\nAll volunteers must pass Safe Sanctuaries training. Contact [[Julie Wilson|mailto:JMW1976@gmail.com]] or [[Pastor Ralph Howe|howerw3@gmail.com]] for more information about volunteering. For more information on Safe Sanctuaries, please visit: http://www.gbod.org/ministries/family/safe/default.html
Our center runs on a minimal budget. With additional funds, we can offer additional programing options.\n\nThose willing to donate cold hard cash to the center may do so by sending a check to Hedding United Methodist Church, 40 Washington Street, Barre VT 05641. On the check please write //Teen Center// in the memo line. Cash donations will help fund volunteer trainings and special events for the teens.\n\n
The chairs and tables we have now are not ergonomic, nor particularly comfortable. In order to create a welcoming environment where students can be comfortable while they study we would love donations of good, clean office chairs for use at our computer work stations. Donations of other furniture, such as armchairs, would also help create the welcoming environment.\n\nAnyone wishing to donate, please contact the director,[[Julie Wilson|mailto:jmw1976@gmail.com]]

The Teen Center is off to a great start. We've had 8 teens and "tweens" come so far. Several of them have visited more than once a week.\n\nWe're hoping that when the beautiful weather changes, we'll get a few more kids.\n\nThe four computers we have now are getting lots of use, and we should have up to 8 more to add to our collection soon.

We're growing! We have seen over 40 different teens and pre-teens since we opened our doors in September. We see the same kids several times a week. \n\nWe now have 10 computer systems up and running and a working lazer printer so youth can print out their homework in black and white.\n\nWe're working on completing the list of board members. The goal is to have the names in place by Thanksgiving and to have the first meeting in January. We're hoping to have a combination of folks from the church and folks from the community, including teens.\n\nWe are still short on volunteers. It seems lots of people think it's a great idea, but none of them have time to volunteer.\n\nWe have applied for a grant from the Vermont Coalition of Teen Centers. We hope to get $1,200 to help supplement our Mission Support Committee funding.

We need donations of books for teens and tweens - at reading levels between 3rd grade and adult. Fiction books are great (as long as they're not violent or sexual in nature). We would love donations of the following:\n\nHockey sticks and goal - we have a great parking lot for street hockey, but no equipment for it!\n\nA gaming system to hook up to our big screen TV (we would love a WII, but anything will do).
